A brand new development at South Windle celebrates success as demand continues for a range of new 2, 3 and 4 bedroom attractive, energy efficient homes at Chapel and Argyle Street in South Windle, St Helens.

The Regenda Group who recently launched the development, has been working in partnership with St Helens Borough Council, Helena Partnerships and residents of South Windle Steering Group on the project worth over £5million. The project has created a stunning and imaginative development of 44 new affordable homes which retains the traditional Victorian atmosphere of the area and forms part of South Windle Neighbourhood Renewal area in St Helens.

A number of residents have already moved into the brand new development as the homes are available through rental schemes and through Homebuy shared ownership.

Graham Bennett, Director of Home Ownership at the Regenda Group said; "We recently hosted a very successful launch event and we are very pleased to report a strong interest in these properties with a number of residents already moving into their new properties.

Our partnership with St Helens Council, Helena Partnerships, the steering group and the design team has resulted in high quality and affordable homes which will ensure the success of this regeneration area."

John Simm from St Helens Borough Council said, "This has been a highly successful and exemplar project which has been delivered through close partnership working with the Regenda Group, Helena Partnerships and the Council. However, it's key to success has been the work undertaken with the local community who have been influential in ensuring that the design and type of housing complements the neighbourhood, whilst meeting local aspirations and need."

Bill Lacey, Head of Growth and New Opportunities at Helena Partnerships said, "This development represents another positive step in the regeneration of South Windle. The partnership between the Council, Regenda and Helena has made a successful contribution to the sustainability of the area."

Jean Davies, Chair of South Windle Residents Committee said, "The original motivation for forming the Group was to have some control over the housing development with initial consultation revealing a strong desire for traditional style housing that fit into our community.

The houses look fabulous, with sash windows, stone detailing and decorative brickwork, yet they are also eco-friendly and suited to modern living.

The team and builders on 'our' site have been stupendous! They have been polite, helpful, considerate, neat, quiet, hardworking, organised.... no praise is too high.

Now that the planning and construction are finishing, the Group looks forward to welcoming the new residents."

The Regenda Group and St Helens Council have worked hard together with The Homes and Communities Agency to secure the funding of £2.1million to ensure the affordability of these homes was made possible .

The Homes and Communities Agency is the Government’s national affordable homes agency. The Homes and Communities Agency £8.4 million investment programme for 2008-2011 is its biggest ever and is set to fund over 155,000 affordable homes in that period.
